I am thrilled and honored to share that my latest work, Tornado Watch, has been accepted into Quilt National 27. This biannual exhibition explores the expanded field of quilting, showcasing textile-based contemporary art and fiber as a medium for material inquiry. The exhibition features works that interrogate surface, structure, labor, gender, and politics. These quilts merge craft, design, and fine art, repositioning quiltmaking within contemporary art discourse.

The QN27 is opening at the Dairy Barn in Athens, OH, on May 28, 2027, with artist talks on the 29th. I'm planning on attending both events.

My statement for this quilt: Part of my ongoing series addressing the effect of climate change on weather events. The anxiety caused by receiving a tornado watch alert is ever so slightly mitigated by briefly watching the fierce beauty of the storm unfold, as the sky turns odd colors and the wind swirls, before heading to a hopefully sheltered location. Waiting for it to pass allows time to reflect on the policies that are making this occurrence more commonplace. The plant prints are made using sunshine and time. The hexagons are apotropaic, representing a metaphorical but imperfect protective shield against further disaster.
