
More wishful thinking on my part. As the bitter winds continue to howl, I daydream about that first spring day when I can open up the windows and let in the fresh air. This small quilt, titled "Open Windows", features a leaf from a
sassafras tree, another one of my favorites that has more than one leaf shape on any given branch. Here's the leaf, a "double mitten", being printed on a piece of vintage silk sari that started out white with turquoise stripes:

The other large leaf is from a
tulip poplar, which gets its common name from the flowers, which are often high up on the tree and best viewed from above:
